We are thrilled to share that KMG Systems was featured in a recent episode of the BBC’s popular programme, Inside the Factory, where hosts Paddy McGuinness and Cherry Healey explored the fascinating production process behind one of Britain’s favourite snacks: Walkers Quavers.
As the programme followed the Quavers production line at the Walkers factory in Lincoln, KMG Systems equipment could be seen playing a critical role in several key stages of the process.
Behind the Scenes of Quavers Production
Paddy McGuinness walked viewers through the scale and complexity of the factory’s operations, including:
- Mixing Ingredients: Potato starch, rice flour, soya flour, and seasoning are combined to create the Quavers dough.
- Extruding and Shaping: The dough is shaped into thin sheets and stretched over rollers to create the signature curl tension.
- Drying and Frying: The dough pellets are dried and then fried to puff them into the airy, crispy curls.
- De-oiling: the curls then pass over a KMG de-oiling machine which gently and efficiently removes excess oil leaving a perfect snack ready for seasoning.
- Seasoning: The final step sees the curls coated in cheese powder using a KMG seasoning system, ensuring every curl gets the perfect seasoning balance.
A Proud Moment for KMG Systems
It’s an honour to see KMG Systems featured in a programme that celebrates the engineering and innovation behind one of Britain’s favourite snacks.
